Celebrate Rembrandt’s life and the extraordinary century in which he lived in museums throughout Holland with theme year Rembrandt and the Golden Age.
Rembrandt lived and painted in a special time in the seventeenth century better known as the Dutch Golden Age. In 2019 it will be 350 years since Rembrandt died. To honor one of the most impactful artist of the 17th century, several museums in collaboration with the NBTC organize ”350 years of Rembrandt and the Golden Age”. Museums throughout all of the Netherlands renewed exhibitions on all aspects related to the life and art of this prestigious artist. Therefore, Rembrandt and the Golden Age are unmistakable intertwined with each other.
Rembrandt van Rijn was born in Leiden, 1606. When he enrolled at Leiden University in 1620, he used the name: ”Rembrandus” only in 1633 he wrote the name ”Rembrandt” for the first time under one of his paintings. Before that time his name was written without ”T”, but what the official spelling variant is still remains a mystery.
